FireTrace data sources and their limits
Điểm nhiệt không phải đám cháy đã xác nhận / A hotspot is not a confirmed fire

FireTrace data sources and their limits
A hotspot is not a confirmed fire.
FireTrace draws satellite hotspots. This article says what each opened source covers, and where it stops.
NASA FIRMS is the source of the dots. The FAQ says each point is the centre of a pixel flagged for one or more fires, or another thermal anomaly such as a volcano. The same page also says at least one fire is inside the pixel. Those two sentences do not match, so a dot is not a confirmed fire. A MODIS pixel is about 1 km and a VIIRS pixel is about 375 m. The fire is often smaller than the pixel. Near-real-time data reach FIRMS within about 3 hours of the observation, on a best-effort basis. A fire can be missed because it ended between passes, because of cloud, smoke, or canopy, because the instrument was down, or because the fire was too small or too cool. Confidence has no cutoff that is right for every region.
How to read the 24 hour, 7 day, 30 day, and 1 year buttons, and the certainty and heat labels, is at /bai-viet/cach-doc-firetrace. The map text repeats that each dot is a place a satellite saw heat, not a confirmed fire.
The page https://vndms.gov.vn/ opened on 18 October 2026 under the name Vietnam Disaster Monitoring System. What it showed were groups for coastal landslides, boat anchorages, rice and vegetables, landslide points, and irrigation works. That page did not show a forest-fire detection product. This article takes no fire counts from VNDMS, because the opened page had none.
The Sơn La paper in the VNU Journal of Science, 25 September 2017, https://doi.org/10.25073/2588-1094/vnuees.4088, builds a risk map for Sơn La province. The PDF names the authors Nguyễn Ngọc Thạch, Đặng Ngô Bảo Toàn, and Phạm Xuân Cảnh. The map is for that province's prevention planning, not a national hotspot layer. This article does not copy the map scale, the parameter count, the coefficient of determination, or the fire counts and area the introduction quotes from the ministry.
When the map names the Canadian fire-weather index, that figure is a model index computed from weather. The model index is not forest-fire forecast level I to V. The article on those levels is at /bai-viet/cap-du-bao-chay-rung.
